Micro-Regeneration:

The Challenge:
In response to Shanghai’s planning authorities’ call for urban regeneration, this competition entry focuses on leveraging big data to explore a “micro-health check” for Xinhua Street—a historic yet aging neighborhood. The research aims to quantify the deep connection between physical urban space and the diverse behaviors of its residents.

The Approach & Outcome:
We developed a multi-dimensional mapping framework, overlaying housing prices and population density with five categories of functional POIs and dynamic MoBike cycling trajectories. The resulting cartography visualizes the neighborhood’s vibrancy core, where high-density service grids overlap with seamless micro-mobility. This diagnostic tool provides direct visual evidence for identifying “vitality gaps” and informing precise streetscape interventions.
