Pedestrian Flow Estimation

The Challenge: 
To assist a global QSR brand in launching a new breakfast service by quantifying pedestrian flow distributions during Shanghai’s morning rush hour.


The Approach & Outcome: 
Using Shanghai Metro data and Baidu map shortest-path APIs, the study modeled pedestrian trajectories for the two stages of the morning commute: home-to-metro and metro-to-workplace. The flow analysis helped the brand assess the performance of existing stores and prioritize locations with the highest potential to capture commuters.
